Today, the port boasts multiple terminals, each designed to cater to specific types of cargo and shipping needs. It notably features a deep-water harbor capable of accommodating large vessels, numerous terminals, and specialized facilities for handling various types of cargo. The Cat Lai Terminal, the largest and most important of Saigon Port, handles 70% of the total cargo throughput. 

Equipped with advanced technology, including logistics systems, modern cranes, and extensive storage facilities, the port is positioned to support efficient operations.

Saigon Port’s infrastructure supports direct shipping routes to major markets such as the United States and the European Union, minimizing dependency on other regional hubs like Hong Kong and Singapore.

Despite its favorable location and economic expansion, Vietnam has faced a decline in its logistics market share in recent years, impacting its competitiveness.

The Vietnamese government is investing heavily in Saigon Port’s expansion, modernization, and overall operations process improvement to meet the growing demands of international trade. This crucial strategy is part of a broader national initiative aimed at doubling the country’s cargo handling capacity from 200 million MT to 400 million MT by 2030.
